Do you put off going to the dentist, including your scheduled dental cleanings? Do you only go to the dentist when you are in extreme tooth pain? You may be suffering from dental phobia! It is normal to feel some anxiety when you have to go to the dental office, but you shouldn’t be terrified. Here are some simple things you can do to the next time you decide to brave the dental chair!

Tell your dental team
Let our friendly staff know that you are anxious and we will do everything we can to make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and secure.

Work out a “stop” signal
Find a signal that you can make to let your dentist know you need to pause the procedure momentarily. Many people find raising their hand is a good way to alert your dentist that you need a moment.

Distract yourself
Bring an MP3 player with some ear buds and while away the time with your favorite tunes. Some people find a peaceful visualization that can help them tune out their surroundings. Picture yourself walking through a woodland forest or jumping waves at the beach.

Bring a friend
Just knowing you have someone you trust waiting for you after the procedure will be comforting, especially if they are driving you home afterwards so you can relax.

You want to do everything in your control to take good care of your dental health. Regular brushing, flossing, and keeping your dental cleanings will go a long way to keeping your smile bright!
