Do you practice great oral hygiene habits? If not, your oral health care could be suffering. Brushing and flossing your teeth daily would be ineffective if you did not use proper dental tools such as a brush or dental floss. Likewise, if the tools are worn down, damaged, or contaminated, they won’t be able to do their jobs as intended or with the effectiveness needed for optimum oral health. Care for your toothbrush and floss so that they can care for you.

The first step for effective toothbrush care is to ensure that toothbrushes are not shared. Additionally, avoid any form of cross-contamination by avoiding sharing your brush, or letting it touch other brushes. Always keep your brush clean when not in use. Do not store it in closed containers for long periods of time.

The style and shape of your toothbrush is also important. Always use a toothbrush that fits easily in your mouth. Try to find a brush with soft bristles, as stiff bristles can be overly abrasive or harmful to your gums. If you struggle to brush your teeth, electric toothbrushes can make brushing easier.

Replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Always look for a brush with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The same goes for toothpaste. Although daily brushing is effective, visit us at Studio 1 Dental at least every six months for an oral exam or professional cleaning.

Brushing your teeth with a clean brush twice daily can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease caused by plaque buildup. If you would like a professional cleaning or an oral exam from Dr. David J.
