Root canal therapy is a much-needed treatment when your tooth’s pulp and nerve are infected. During treatment, your dentist, Dr. David J. Berg, will remove the infected parts of the tooth, fill the tooth with a special material called gutta percha, and seal the tooth with a dental filling or dental crown. This is a more invasive dental treatment that requires the proper recovery. So, to help you heal after you’ve undergone root canal therapy, our Studio 1 Dental dental team encourages you to do the following things:

Take prescribed medications

Your dentist should prescribe some anti-inflammatory or anti-pain medications to you after your surgery. These medications will help with the pain and discomfort. If you do not have prescribed medications, you can use over-the-counter pain medications, like Advil or Motrin.

Avoid using that tooth

If your doctor has yet to restore your tooth by placing a dental crown over it, please do not chew with that tooth until he does. This will help you avoid recontamination and infection.

Brush and floss

Remember to brush and floss just like you normally would. Brushing and flossing will help you keep your mouth and the surgical area clean and healthy.

Resting is vital if you want a full recovery. Generally, patients are able to return to normal activities the next day, but until then, take it easy.

If you do these things, you will be on your way to a proper recovery after a root canal in Sacramento, California!
