As you enjoy the spring, you likely find yourself outside many hours of the day loving the warm weather. While you play on the grass, go on walks, play sports and participate in other spring activities, our dentist, Dr. David J. Berg, strongly encourages you to work toward a top-notch spring smile. This means you need to clean and care for your teeth and gums regularly. To help you do so, he encourages you to do the following things:
-Brush twice a day: When you brush every morning and night, you remove the bacteria and other harmful substances from the surfaces of your teeth, which can help you prevent minor and major dental problems. As you brush, make sure to use a toothbrush with soft bristles and fluoride toothpaste.
-Floss once a day: When you floss every night, you eliminate the plaque and food particles from between your teeth and along the gumline, which can help you prevent cavities and gum disease (the two most serious and dangerous dental issues). It’s best to use a product that is easy to use so you don’t risk injuring your gums as you floss.
-Attend your dental checkups: When you attend your dental checkup, the cleaning provided can remove toxic substances, like tartar (also known as calculus), from your teeth and gumline. This is very important because it can help you keep gum disease at bay. So, make sure to set a reminder for yourself if you’re due for a checkup this spring.
